The King Oliver Centennial Band debuted in 1985 -- the centennial of the
great New Orleans cornetist Joe "King" Oliver's birth -- at the Festival of
New Orleans Music in beautiful Ascona, Switzerland. My cornetist friend
Charlie DeVore (far right) and I (seated) recruited five English musicians
-- from left, Malcolm Horne (guitar and banjo), Alyn Shipton (bass), Teddy
Layton (clarinet, alto sax), Dave Evans (drums), Cuff Billett (trumpet), and
Pete Dyer (trombone).
The Emporium of Jazz, probably c. 1970-75. The big ring binders contain
chord changes for about 400 tunes, most of the Hall Brothers Jazz Band's
repertoire.
