"At the dawn of this [20th] century a new music was born in New Orleans. It was a 'good time' music, to make the people happy. Its appeal was so immediate that the music soon swept the whole country and then circled the globe. It was not so much a kind of music as a style of playing. Essentially it was simply a way of 'playing a melody with a beat.'" William Russell, jazz historian
Jazz Originals, Butch Thompson's weekly radio show, focuses on the early jazz tradition, with Butch playing and commenting on vintage recordings of the true originals of the music Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller, Eubie Blake, and many more.
The Jazz Originals show with Butch Thompson airs on Sundays at 6 pm CST
and (repeat) Thursdays at 8 pm CST.

Independent researchers have determined that fans of Butch's "Jazz Originals" radio show are people who think for themselves. They don't run with the herd. If that describes you, why not think about underwriting the show? It's a unique way to support programming you think is halfway decent, and Butch will give you an on-air credit, too. How about "Tonight's show sponsored in part by Ed, in honor of five happy years of marriage to Irma, his wife of 23 years." For more information on both individual and corporate underwriting, contact Kevin Barnes at KBEM radio, 612-529-KBEM (5236), or email Kevin: kbar264@aol.com.
