JAZZ88 KBEM 88.5 FM PRESENTED
Butch Thompson WITH SARAH LAROSE-HOLLAND AND HER DANCE COMPANY Kinetic Evolutions IN
"Destination Twin Cities"
at The Lab Theater IN Minneapolis, MN, June 14 - 15, 2013
PLANS ARE IN MOTION FOR A SEQUEL, SO STAY TUNED!
Two Minnesota artists — celebrated choreographer Sarah LaRose-Holland and jazz pianist Butch Thompson — collaborated to present "Destination Twin Cities," an impressionistic, time-traveling exploration of neighborhoods, landmarks, people and places that define urban life in Minnesota. Who were we, and who are we today?
The performance included images of Saint Paul's Swede Hollow neighborhood and iconic landmarks like the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis. The experience of the seedy Hennepin Avenue "strip" was revisited, where jazz musicians provided the sound track and the counter-cultural antiwar lifestyle that emerged on Minneapolis' West Bank during the 1960s. This is just part of the story.
Kinetic Evolutions dancers performing in this show included:
Sarah LaRose-Holland (Director)
Calder O'Doubhlain (apprentice)
Cecilia Grace Hauss Fawcett (guest performer)
Butch Thompson on Piano & Clarinet
Maud Hixson (guest singer)
This concert was made possible in part through funding provided by the Minnesota Legacy Amendment Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
